So its been a busy few weeks with not enough time to post, not cool hmu i know but we'll have to pick up the pace with these four for monday. With a couple of Tunes from Mike Okay, Major Lazer and an amazing remix of Pjanoo by Dada life i think you'll agree that we've upped our game. So lets get going.
Hey guys been a busy week and I've found these tunes for your listening pleasure! We kick off with one hell of a heavy tune by Felix Cartal. We've professed our love for this guy's stuff on Hook Me Up before and this ones no different - and with John Roman on the remix its simply incredible!
Next its another remix of the ever popular La Roux. This time its Tepr and in typical Tepr style he's got some some really cool melodies and chords going on in this one.
Finally its another tune by Calvertron. We posted one of his a few days ago and as we said he has been putting out some real bangers recently and this one doesn't dissapoint. It's Oscillator!!!
The Previously HMU blogged San Francisco wundertrio Pance Party is often asked, “What is Pance Party?” Well, Pance Party is running through a rolling meadow, surrounded by a million puppies. Pance Party is a dinosaur screaming at a taco. Pance Party is fun at all costs, hyper-absurd, preposterous dance music expressed through innovative sounds, delightfully catchy leads, and face-melting bass – enough raw sonic energy to turn even the most negative Nancy into a raving lunatic on the dance floor.
Pance Party emerged through a chance break in the string of profanities, non sequiturs, and laughing at puppies that normally makes up the conversations of members Ben Swardlick, Eric Luttrell, and Andy Coenen – A gap in the mindless banter led to the question “What if we started our very own Producer Three-O?”. And so it began.
That being said the HMU Pance Party appreciation society figured we'd show some love with these new PP remixes.
First up Deejay Raph's FMIF (Pance Party Remix) offers a VERY wonky, bouncy party track with some rather rude lyrics suggesting a wee bit of "romance," high five. This tune has the bass by the balls and even samples the previously Blogged 'A Million Puppies' by the Pance Party Boys themselves.
Next up Pance Party open up a can of worms on Divasonic's new track. will be coming your way as soon as we figure out how to set up the right streaming method,
Summer is most definitely upon us and the music needs to reflect the summery feeling boiling up inside our souls! So with that in mind we gotta get the beats in place, we''ve got some amazing tunes for you from the likes of Chaka Khan, Passion Pit and Ellie Goulding.
First up, Chaka Khan's 'I Feel For You' with a twist. Calvertron's reputation for churning out bangers is getting more and more widely spread, with tour dates reaching Ibiza and the Czech Repblic. His remix totally wonks up the classic Chaka Khan tune and throws you into a summer feel. be sure to check out his myspace for more info on how to find a gig near you!
So we've all heard the Passion Pit track Sleepyhead and we've recently blogged the Neo Tokyo remix a few weeks ago. Thanks to the boys of Noise Porn they've intoduced us to the Jazzsteppa Remix. A brilliant take on th e origional with a fragmented melody remaniscent of a summer breeze. Belter.
Finaly we've got a birllian wonky fiddgety summer tune from Ellie Goulding with Jakwob on the remix. The England based Jakwob has recently had plays on Radio 1's Annie Mac and Jaymo & Andy George shows. The BBC sure think his tunes are top notch and we're with them. Get a listen into this and then hit the myspace and show some love! Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix)
WOW! the Lovely DeDeDee have just sent a cheeky little EP sampler for us to enjoy. Enjoy i shall, many times over. 'DeDeDee - What The Hell?! EP' (System Recordings) is gonna be dropping into the Beatport world on the 4th June and 16th June on iTunes and everywhere else. With sounds similar to that of Daft Punk and Justice this EP is sure to impress, definitely looking forward to getting a copy here at HMU.
The EP consists of the three tracks 'What The Hell', 'Tell Me' and 'Swagga Jacka'. With my personal fav 'Tell Me' rocking the middle of the sampler due to the cheeky Phantom II similarities.
DeDeDee have a couple of gigs lined up in the UK to go along with the EP launch so if you're in the area get yourself down. For more information hit up the myspace, and look out for the EP on Beatport June 4th.
We often talk about bangers on Hook Me Up, but when I heard these at the weekend I was blown away. Nadisko have kindly sent us two of their tracks for the readers of HMU! Nadisko are a Sydney based duo who, in their own words, like to "keep it hard". Indeed they do! Their music falls in somewhere along with Proxy and Boys Noize with influences from the likes of Felix Cartal.
Let us know what you think of these guys because we certainly have high hopes for them! Check out their myspace page atwww.myspace.com/nadisko for more tracks and info on the duo!
If you are looking for your electronic fix of bleepy tech formed synth notes with deep throbbingbasslines then California based Pance Party is exactly where it can be found. The New EP 'A Million Puppies' is full to the brim with funky electronic brilliance, this EP really delivers. The three producers that create this colorful sound have equally colorful personalities, with Andy, Eric and Ben, creating multi-touch midi controllers, climbing Kilimanjaro and cycling across the United States respectively.
So we've chosen to highlight a few of the hottest tracks from the EP, have a listen and then head straight over to their myspace and show some love!
"Big big big.... BIG MOUTH!" shouts the sample as the distortion from the bass flutters over your face. A very D.I.M. / Daft Punk sounding track with very funky aspects from the get go and vocoders singing the melody.
The start of this song along with the title teases a sense of relaxation and joy in the word before tearing it all down with possibly the heaviest bass on the EP. However, the little vocal samples as well as the bouncy rhythm sectio keeps it sounding funky as a chicken with a boom box.
Excellent boysnoizeesque distorted guitar sounding techno, this tune lays it all on the table inviting you to jump up and rave. Big synthy build-ups into rocking loops with even a bit of my favorite sound ever... the cowbell. BOOM!
Joe and Will Ask? are taking the uk by storm. Although currently having a little brea kfrom DJing - study come first - good boys - they're allready lined up for a summer between the uk and ibiza and mallorca. The boys joined forces in 2007 and quickly hopped into the some of londons biggest nights. Meanwhile their productions have been equally well received. Firmly connected to the dance floor they fire out remixes for the band/ indie scene, as easily as diehard clubbers. With comparisons to SoulWax, Chemical Brothers, DIM and Popof they certainly are making waves in the dance world. We've got a couple of tracks as well as their fantastic La Roux remix.
First up, Hell Hawk. This track is totally techno. nice meaty kick drum with the distorted sounds of the synth rocking over the top to create a minimal heat pounding throb that builds you right up. Banging.
Yellowstone again takes on the gise of a minimal techno tune, however there is soooo much to it. This tune is the one for me i think. Deep bass kick, fluttering highs with a progressive melody builds it into one hell of a body rocking tune. It's so simle yet so damn nice, you like?
Its the end of yet another week - going so fast lately! Anyway here's a little selection of what's been grabbing my attention since last weekend. Kicking things off is Cold Blank with 'Marshmallow Man'. I am absolutely loving Cold Blank's tunes lately and this is just another banger!
Finally here's a tune that I first heard in the classic film Trainspotting! Some classic 90s club anthemness with some huge bass chucked in for good measure!
Its been a pretty laidback day - really not that much happening! So I thought I would continue the theme on Hook Me Up with some laidback tunes. Firstly it Laidback Luke (see what iv done there?!). He's back putting his touch to Daft Punk's 'Around The World'. Along with that its Fred Falke's very chilled remix of Hot Chip and John Roman's take on Peep Thong. Around The World (Laidback Luke Remix) - Daft Punk
What a beautiful day it is here in Scotland, i hope everynoe else is in the same position maxing, relaxing and enjoying the bank holiday weekend... But if not don't frett, we've got some perfect tunes to put you right in the mood for a sunny sunday afternoon.
Recently Drop the Lime has been bangin' out some massive tunes. His combination of epic throbby bass with some classic rave hooks have provided dance floors with some classic moves. Here are just a few of his tunes to get you hooked! Died In Your Arms (Drop The Lime Remix) - Cutting Crew
The Hump Day Project are just firing out remixes left right and center at the moment so i thought that we'd try and cover their flair for remixing with this Daft Punk Mash Up. Also Boys Noize and Frankmusik meet and it excites me. Further more Surkin is sounding a little wonky with this Bobmo remix. Check it out and get yourself excited for the weekend!
So Jaymo and Andy George have been tearing it up across the UK from their base at Moda (Lincoln), across numerous dance floors and even peoples homes and cars via the airwaves of BBC Radio 1. Their performances have won them an army of fans, most notably in the form of super-producer Kissy Sell Out - who nominated them as his favourite new DJs as part of the BBC Introducing Tour 2008.
So we've grabbed a tune from each of the boys to put them head to head in a battle to the death! Well not really but you can still hear their shiz.
ok i know this could be slightly cheesy! but i think that Laidback Luke has managed to make this remix of Will Smith's 'Miami' a real club banger! i personally really like this tune and hey its Will Smith - so what could go wrong!
As featured on the fake blood essential mix, this Vektorkat song is driving people absolutely bonkers. You won't find this on any other blog as a 320, so fill yer boots chaps!
The newsrooms newest post pub/pre-club night is back this friday from the SOUND boys. It's all about house music down at sound, so you're in for a perfect way to start the evening! The boys from SOUND have been making a name for themselves playing in various forms around Edinburgh including FUSE as the self titled fuse-house-mafia, lets hope that sticks :P
We've got a wee exclusive mix from Resident Matt Mackie so check it out for an idea of what to expect!
...here are the important details:
SOUND @ The Newsroom (leith Street) Edinburgh - Friday 24th April 8pm-1am
So Little Boots has been all over the blogs and so should she be, she is churning out so many tunes that have remix written all over them. So here at hmu we thought we'd show you a wee selection of people who definitely deliver what these tunes are so desperately asking for. Couldn't decide which one we like the best over here so we thought we'd put it up to you!
You can find Little Boots pretty much wherever you are. Paris, Amsterdam, London with Annie Mac presents and even tokyo. So there is no excuse not to get yourselves along to a gig near you!
So after much time wasted (and time not so wasted) I have managed to find a bit of time to let you in on a few tunes that have been grabbing my ears recently.
So for last week's show we were lucky enough to have an exclusive play of Cheap As Chimps' new track 'No Love Like This.' As well as the airing of the fantastic track we also had a wee interview for you lovely people to get to know him a little better...
HMU: Where did you get the name cheap as chimps?
CAC: My dad came up with it..i was pretty influenced by the basement jaxx s ound when i first started making music and i wanted a cheeky, light-hearted name to fit the quirky style of the music. After all, music should be fun so i didnt want a name that was too serious... also, my 9 year old brother featured on one of my first tracks 'speaker dirt'.. he's a cheeky little monkey so the name just stuck..!
HMU: So you won ministry if sound competition last year - did you find it helped a lot in thrusting you into the public eye?
CAC: totally - having a name as big as ministry of sound behind you makes you s tand out from the heap of other bedroom djs/artists out there..my first artist EP was also sold exclusively by ministry of sound download for a while so that helped boost my profile. People take me a lot more seriously too when I mention Ministry of Sound. Sad as it may be, the music business revolves a lot around name-dropping.
but my competition mix took a LOT of preparation to make sure it would get their attention..and to KEEP your name in the spotlight you have to continue to make that effort. Nothing comes for free.
HMU: Would you recommend potential djs get on that?
CAC: as far as i know, the dj competition was a one-off - but there are competitions like that all over the place..Everybody and their grandma is a DJ these days so winning a competition like that is a perfect way to set yourself apart from everyone else. obviously, the more competitions you enter the more likely you will win..finding the time is the problem though!
HMU: What is your favourite club banger (would absolutely make your night out) and your most loved chill out tune?
CAC: Banger - Rico Tubbs - 'Gangsters'...no track should be without the odd gun shot sample! it never gets old!
Chilled out - still house but its progressive house from the 90s. totally perfect for a beach setting : Medway - 'Resurrection'
HMU: itunes or beatport?
CAC: Beatport. I always buy wav quality files. It's nice to know i have the sub-bass there if i should need it. Stompy and Junodownload are good too.
HMU: vinyl or cd?
CAC: There is no denying that vinyl is cool. but it costs more than buying singular tracks and then burning them to CD. When i first started djing I didnt have the cash to buy both vinyl decks AND CDJs, so I went down the cd route and now i wouldnt consider using anything else. I like making edits of my tracks too, so I need the tracks to be in a digital for that too..
HMU: allen and heath or pioneer (mixer)?
CAC: Oddly, i bought my allen & heath after getting a recommendation in the VIP toilets at Fabric. (Just to explain, I was down in London cos Sasha was playing in the main room and i was catching up with a few friends in the toilets as it's for both men and women, they have a sofa and you can have a conversation without shouting!) Anyway, some random dude started having an in-depth discussion with a friend of mine about the virtues of the allen & heath mixer versus other mixers on the market.. all the chat about low frequency oscillators kinda went over my head at that time... but I gathered that they were well-built mixers that would guarantee a very high sound quality..
Anyway, I opened DJmag later that week to find that Allen and Heath mixers are John Digweed's mixers of choice. That kinda sold it to me. I bought my allen and heath xone:32 as my first mixer and its never let me down. The pioneer mixers are good too but we all have our preferences!
HMU: headphones?
CAC: Sennheiser. My neighbour was a sennheiser salesman. enough said.
CAC: I'm gonna have to go with tim. he gave me my first big gig at Subclub and has always played quality tunes whenever i have heard him play.
HMU: favourite club you've played in and why?
CAC: The Sub Club - no contest. not the biggest crowd i've played to but the soundsystem is just unbelievably good fun to play with and everyone was totally up for a good time. Until (one day!) I play at Fabric, it will probably be the best soundsystem i get my hands on! it felt like an honour to be behind those decks too, considering the caliber of Djs that have played there!
HMU: craziest story from a night out?
I was living in copenhagen. had untold amounts of jaegerbombs and mojitos and fell asleep on the bus home. The bus driver woke me up at the end of the line. It was 5 in the morning and it was another 2 hours until the next bus back. With nothing else to do, i had a walk around the place. I wondered what was shimmering behind the trees ahead of me..It turned out to be THE SEA. I was about 2 hours away from where i lived and I was right next to the airport..I ended up trying to find the entrance to the airport cos a storm was fast approaching (no joke!) but it turns out that airfields are pretty big things!...i wandered around disused airhangers next to the ocean to no avail. got soaked and then after and hour of aimless wandering i turned back and got the bus home. Unfortunately I did the same the following week but the bus was going north, not south that time! At least i saw some scenery.
HMU: where can we find you in the next coming months?
In the studio mainly - aka my bedroom. I have a few label offers and i it would be good to get some more tracks out soon. Then I can relax for a while and get back on the DJing side of things.
Cheap As Chimps' new track 'The way I feel' will be out on Mindtravel recordings (Italy) in the upcoming months, also the Greenskeepers remix of 'Hold my hand' will be out soon too..
It's Been Ages since my last post and unfortunately its just a quick one as i gotta skidaddle off to flux, So here's a couple tracks i've been looking forward to playing all day to keep you going 'till next time.

Until then however here are some more tunes for you hmu lovers :)
Hello HMU fans, long time no see. I thought i' start the week with a fidget house tune for each finger of my right hand (not the one seen above which is more like luke's).
Right its the end of the first week for Hook Me Up. As a celebration of this we've decided to let you in on a few tracks we've been loving this week (and maybe one that we've always loved!)
Right lets get down to it. Royksopp are back in the forefront with their top tune 'Happy Up Here'. The Boys Noize version is definately worth a listen - it is one hell of a tune! Also chucked in a couple more for your musical fix!
Expect the usual carnage, along with the usual credit crunch busting prices. Cheaper entry, and cheaper drinks than before.
We have also appointed a new resident, coming all the way from sunny Glasgow each month, Tim James (Flux, SubClub//Hook Me Up) is back by popular demand :)
As you can see I'll be there showing off my 'mad skills' so anyone in the Edinburgh radius should pop down for what's shaping up to be a great night out.
After hitting the scene last year with his EP "Skip School" last year for Boys Noize records, the talented young French producer 'Strip Steve' is back with a bone thumping remix of 'The Vamp' by Outlander.
After the immense success of Tiga's 'Sunglasses at night' and 'Mind Dimension' our beloved Canadian born techno wizard is back with a rather chilled out and soulful 'Overtime.' Altough just a cheeky little sample it give a great idea of what's yet to come from the very same man who once covered Nelly's 'Hot in Here'
So here it is, Hook Me Up's first Blog, and what better way to start it off with a cheeky bit of Kissy Sell Out. We all know and love the Radio 1 legend that is Kissy and when he put's his very own 80's electronic finger on the a tune it's bound to hit the dancefloor with a bang if not a little controvercy. So, that being said, here is Kissy's latest remix, enjoy.....
All links to and regarding MP3's are purely for evaluation purposes.
If you like the tracks, please help the musicians by purchasing their records/mp3 downloads etc... HMU Strongly recommends Itunes, Beatport and Juno as excellent places to find music.
MP3s will be removed at the request of the artist or their respective label.
